How much do you charge?
A fee can not be determined until our first meeting, which is always free. This provides an opportunity for us to view the project site, interview the client, and determine the appropriate process for moving forward. Fees are based on the type of service (consulting vs. design vs. installation vs. management) and the scale of the project. Consulting is based on an hourly rate which is pre-approved by the client. Design is a set fee to not exceed, and the proposal for the installation will outline exactly what we will provide the client.
My outdoor and garden area is very small. Is it too small for hiring a designer?
No garden is too small, and as a professional company, the number one goal is to provide a design that reflects the interests and the budget of the client. Do-It-Yourselfers will benefit from having a design in advance on paper, which will allow them to work through the installation without missing important elements, such as irrigation, lighting, audio speakers, shade spaces or entertainment areas. Having a design on hand will save money in costly installation mistakes.
How should I budget for a new landscape and outdoor living area?
At our first meeting, we will develop a list of "must haves" for the garden and outdoor areas. Based on this information, we will provide some general guidelines as to the cost of such elements. Working through this initial discussion, our team and the client should find a comfortable place to work through the design proposal.
What do you include in an outdoor and landscape plan?
A master plan should include all elements the client desires in their landscape, and essentially anything that is part of the whole design outside of any structural walls. While a master plan is general in detail, it should identify primary site features, including: swimming pools, hot tubs, arbors, pergolas, pavillions, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, paving & pathways, fencing, gates, retaining walls, fountains, waterfalls, water features, outdoor furnishings, trees, major shrub & planting masses, gazebos, garden studios & destinations.
How should I prepare for a fisrt meeting?
This is a prospective client's best opportunity to express their specific outdoor living interests. Having on hand photos, magazine articles, websites, plants, and any other resources that express their personal style will help clarify the desired outdoor concept. Never worry about cost or scale at this time; it is much more important to have fun with this and dream! A great designer will evaluate these desires, layer them with concerns of budget, consider the scale of the site, and combine all these considerations into a customized design that expresses the client's garden and outdoor signature.
